If you like ‘em big and muscly, BigMuscle.com (the name’s a bit of a giveaway) is the gay dating site for you. Nobody’s going to kick sand in these guys’ faces, then again, it’s unlikely that many will venture as far as the beach because most must live in the gym, judging by their physiques. It’s a hobby-type site (as opposed to a more commercial venture) that was set up by the guys who bring you BigMuscleBears.com (also reviewed in this section). As such it has quite a friendly feel, despite all of the big scary men.

You can sign up to BigMuscle.com and get a basic level of membership for free. You can choose whether to register with an admirer account or a profile account. The admirer account is for those who just want to browse the site and get in touch with the brawny guys pictured posing in their speedos. That is, if you’re a puny drink of water then this is where to register and if you’re lucky a man mountain might just get in touch with the intention of eating you as a light snack. Conversely, you can register for a profile account and add your own details and photos. Just make sure that you can compete. Whichever you opt for, all you’ll need is a valid email address and a few minutes to complete the registration form.

The site boasts that it has tens of thousands of profiles, however, you can safely assume that many of these will be fake or inactive. It’s therefore important that you take care when browsing and searching. The problem with the free sites is that you’ll often get time-wasters. If you’re serious about hooking up then you might want to upgrade your membership by becoming a supporter of the site. At least this will convey your intentions. With the free membership you’re also restricted to how many messages you can send, so for a few dollars you can enjoy unrestricted communication with other members, plus additional features; if you have an admirer account you get to create a favourites list, review the profiles you’ve browsed over the last month and add your own notes to profiles. Meanwhile, if you have a profile, by upgrading you’re able to communicate freely with other members by email, add more pictures to your profile and access the travel feature. The profiles themselves are fairly detailed and you get a good sense of what a member looks like as the photos are large. If you have an upgraded membership your profile picture expands when you hover the mouse over it, which gives greater attention to these profiles when browsing. You’ll also find intro videos on some profiles. The chances of finding a date are good as long as you take the time to network and get in touch with as many members as possible. The same goes for all dating sites, however, with the free ones there is more of a need to put yourself forward rather than sit back and wait for the site to match you with others. There are a couple of search options you can use to look for other members. The quick search option is available to all members; however, there are restrictions for free members when using the advanced search.

There are a couple of other features to mention. You can advertise and browse upcoming events and check out articles on gay lifestyle and health issues. A rather muscular guy called Robbie also writes a dating and relationship advice column that you can read. If you have any problems or questions about anything on the site there’s a support desk email address that you can contact. Replies are usually prompt.
