GayDate.com is the fabulous gay dating counterpart to the mainstream dating site, Date.com. They share many of the same features and the format translates well to the world of online gay dating for guys and girls. For a totally free dating site you get all of the features you'd expect to help you in your quest for romance. If you're interested in finding a more serious relationship rather than a quick fling, the chances of finding what you want are good, despite having a smaller membership base than some of its competitors.

Joining GayDate.com is a piece of cake, and it's also completely free. All you need to start is a valid email address and a suitable username. Once accepted, you'll be prompted to upload a picture of yourself. If you're champing at the bit to get dating, it's a great idea to upload a picture now as your profile will inevitably get lots more interest if the other members can see what you look like. However, you don't have to upload a picture now and can leave it until later if you'd prefer.

The homepage is fairly neatly and logically set out and you don't get the feeling of being swamped by too many tabs or drop down menus. From here you can access all the main features, which are ordered at the top of the page. For quick reference, the homepage features browsable lists of new, popular and recently logged in members, as well as a newsfeed of member updates. In addition, the network statistics box lets you know how many members are currently registered (5716 at the time of this review), the numbers of member groups there are, how many members are in the chatrooms and other useful information.

Unlike some other sites, you're free to check out profiles and send messages without having to upgrade your membership. The profiles aren't quite as well fleshed out as on other sites, plus the profile pictures tend to be small thumbnails and it's often difficult to really see what a member looks like. You'll probably start getting mail as soon as you create your profile and upload a picture. The chat rooms were a bit of a let-down as they were very quiet when on a lot of other sites the chat rooms are often buzzing. However, there is quite a variety of chat groups corresponding to a range of interests, hobbies and kinky fetishes. Sadly, you can't check out a member's full profile when you're chatting, but you could always just ask them anything you're curious about. Alternatively, you can just use the quick search and check out their profile a bit later.

Because of the size of the membership base in comparison to other sites, it's worth checking whether there are any members in your approximate location beffore you sign up. If you live in a remote area then it's likely that there won't be many members (if any) that are especially close to you. You should be prepared to travel a little to meet others if necessary. You should at least check whether there are any members in your area before you sign up.

Whilst you'll find the odd nude photo on the site, the members here tend to cover up a little more. If you're looking for something a little wilder then you'd be better off trying another site, e.g. Adam4Adam.com (which is also free). You can create and manage friend and group lists and there are other neat little features to help you to keep in touch with your contacts. If you have any problems or queries you can browse through the site's useful FAQs section or email the support desk. You should get a reply within 24 hours, often sooner.

In summary, GayDate.com offers a really great quality free gay dating site that contains all of the features to help you find dates, friendship and perhaps even love.
