GayDate.com is the gay dating counterpart to GayDating.com. In fact you may find yourself forwarded to GayDating even if you signed up to GayDate as they share many of the same features and offer few surprises. Creating a profile is free, but if you want access to all of the site’s features then you need to pay for an upgraded membership. This is a step backwards for us as the site used to be free! If you're interested in finding a more serious relationship rather than a quick fling, the chances of finding what you want are good, despite having a smaller membership base than some of its competitors.

Joining GayDate.com is a piece of cake. All you need to start is a valid email address and a suitable username. Once accepted, you'll be prompted to upload a picture of yourself. If you're champing at the bit to get dating, it's a great idea to upload a picture now as your profile will inevitably get lots more interest if the other members can see what you look like. However, you don't have to do this if you don't want to.

The homepage is constructed relatively logically and you don't get the feeling of being swamped by too many tabs or drop down menus, but the site can be a bit awkward elsewhere. From the homepage you can access all the main features, which are ordered at the top of the page. For quick reference, the homepage features browsable lists of new, popular and recently logged in members, as well as a newsfeed of member updates. In addition, the network statistics box lets you know how many members are currently registered, the numbers of member groups there are, how many members are in the chatrooms and other useful information.

The profiles aren't quite as well fleshed out as on other sites, plus the profile pictures tend to be small thumbnails and it's often difficult to really see what a member looks like. You'll probably start getting mail as soon as you create your profile and upload a picture. The profiles themselves are somewhat list-like, with vital statistics (body measurements) taking up a lot of the space. Whilst you can include your own thoughts in the “in my own words” section, there are no prompts as to what sorts of things to comment on so most of the profiles simply say “hi I’m x” rather than anything really revealing or interesting. To improve on this element the site could consider having pre-set questions for people to respond to, or simply more fun information than body facts.

The chat rooms were a bit of a let-down as they were very quiet when on many other sites the chat rooms are often buzzing. However, there is quite a variety of chat groups corresponding to a range of interests, hobbies and kinky fetishes. Sadly, you can't check out a member's full profile when you're chatting, but you could always just ask them anything you're curious about. Alternatively, you can just use the quick search and check out their profile a bit later.

Because of the size of the membership base in comparison to other sites, it's worth checking whether there are any members in your approximate location before you sign up. If you live in a remote area then it's likely that there won't be many members (if any) that are especially close to you. You should be prepared to travel a little to meet others if necessary. You should at least check whether there are any members in your area before you sign up. The search options on this site are potentially one of its greatest features, with plenty of options to choose from which range from physical attributes to education and career. This gives more opportunities to find a match based on your lifestyle and beliefs, as well as looks.

Whilst you'll find the odd nude photo on the site, the members here tend to cover up a little more. If you're looking for something a little wilder then you'd be better off trying another site, and there are plenty to choose from which offer a raunchier setting. On GayDate you can create and manage friend and group lists and there are other neat little features to help you to keep in touch with your contacts. If you have any problems or queries you can browse through the site's useful FAQs section or email the support desk. You should get a reply within 24 hours, often sooner.

In summary, GayDate.com offers a decent dating site that contains many of the features to help you find dates, friendship and perhaps even love. Whilst it may not have the highest number of  members, it's worth checking out, so why not create a free profile today?
