MenInLove suggests that it is “The Premier Gay Dating Community”, trusted by millions of members. Despite these claims our basic searches, with fairly flexible preferences, only gave us quite a limited number of results. Whilst the site is relatively well organised it isn’t always the easiest to navigate, and its features are fine but limited. All in all, this site is okay, but there are so many better gay dating websites out there.

It sounds like we’ve started out rather negatively, but this isn’t necessarily true. Our key point is that this site doesn’t do a lot that’s ‘wrong’ per se, but that it simply doesn’t compete with the sites in our top 10. Let us be a little more specific and you can make up your own mind as to whether or not you feel Men in Love has something to offer you. Firstly, signing up is simple enough, you can include as little or as much information as you like, although it is somewhat bland. There are no surprises here, and not necessarily the relative categories to help you express yourself as effectively as possible. This, combined with a lack of profile customisation options, means that the member profiles are a bit samey. What is more positive is the 5MB limit on a photo’s size, which is higher than some sites out there.

Searching is basic, with the quick search only requiring an age range, city or zip code, a distance from your location and whether or not the member needs to have a photo. That said, it’s rather too simple and doesn’t allow you to distinguish between any particulars, physical, social or otherwise. Premium members can perform an advanced search with more options, but it seems unnecessary to restrict the free members from performing more detailed searches when they can’t actually make contact with a member anyway.

There are few features to talk about on this site other than the instant messaging and chat room, which are also only available to premium members. Another kick in the head is that there is only one chat room, which hardly makes for diverse conversations.

Over all we were disappointed by the lack of options available on menInlove. Whilst they claimed their membership numbers were in the millions we found this to be of little consequence when performing a number of basic searches. If you see someone you like then you’ll have to upgrade to have any hope of getting in touch with them, but at least there is a 3 day trial period. Otherwise, we recommend looking elsewhere.
