OutEverywhere.com is the 'social club for gay people'. Its features are intended not merely to help you meet people online, but to help you meet them in real life too. Unlike many other sites, there are loads of ways of getting involved in the OutEverywhere.com community, from nights out to holidays abroad. The site can have a real buzz about it, and if you invest the time and effort then it could prove very fruitful in helping you find likeminded men.

The site itself is well designed in areas, but also a little confusing in some aspects. It's bound to take you a little while to have a look around at the features available to members, but also because there is quite a lot of text appearing, and symbols flashing. We’re perhaps overstating the distractions, but they were noticeable. Because the site has quite a lot of content it can seem a little intimidating, but it shouldn’t take very long to familiarise yourself with the basics.

Joining OutEverywhere.com is free. You'll just need to provide some basic information for your profile and a username and valid email address. Once you're signed up you get start browsing the site and performing searches. You can also check out the events pages and forums to get a good idea of the sorts of things that are going on, and whether or not they suit you. There’s a section called “The Pulse” which is a set of pages allowing you to keep up to date with the gay communities online, which includes recent photo uploads but also more interesting elements such as posts from members, a little like twitter. This is a good way to stay in the loop and to find out what is happening and what members are saying about it, providing a less superficial means of communication than simply “hey you’re hot”.

The profiles are generally pretty detailed and convey a good amount of information. In addition to creating a text profile, you can upload more or less as many photos as you like (some profiles have +100) and profile videos. Nice touches here include profile guest books and the option to tag your profile and photos so that other members can easily find them and make contact with people with the same interests, more easily. One of the only problems is that the site is very 'busy', in the sense that there is just too much here, especially if you're new to it. However, there's no doubt that it has a really great community feel and it's possible to either dip a toe in or completely immerse yourself.

In addition to the usual features you'll find on most dating sites, OutEverywhere.com offers much more in the way of social gatherings, in addition to hooking up with other members for dates. On a one-to-one basis, you'll find events lists enabling you to meet other people for diverse activities including paintball and adventure days, concerts, days at the races, and so much more. Members also organise trips and holidays. There's just so much you can get involved in. Even if you're not meeting people in the real world, you can participate in the site's varied forums and meet people this way. Topics include classified ads, film, TV & radio, food & drink, fun, gay interest, etc. Whilst not as exciting or 'live' as the chat rooms, they still impress in terms of the breadth of discussion topics available. The 'shout' feature is also quite clever, allowing you to send short messages to all those who are currently online. You can also do this via your mobile. In terms of other features, the tagging system is great as it allows you to search for members, photos and events using keywords to make it easy to find exactly what you're looking for. Perhaps the biggest issue with the site is that it lacks a large membership. When we logged on, at a fairly peak time, there were fewer than 100 members online. That said, its members do seem to be active and participating on the site, which is far better than having a site with a million members, none of whom are ever online or doing very much. At around $70 a year for paid membership, we felt that this still offered good value for money because the site goes beyond simply hooking you up with individual men and introduces you to groups of people with whom you can forge lasting relationships.

To sum up, OutEverywhere.com is for those who want to participate in a community site, have fun and meet people in real life, not just screen-to-screen. If your social life is somewhat lacklustre, sign up today and before you know it you'll be meeting new people, trying new things and maybe even finding that someone special.
