OneGoodLove is a fairly standard gay dating website with one key difference: it’s established to bring together men who are looking for serious relationships. If you’re looking for more than a roll in the hay and want to meet other men who are similarly looking to find Mr Right with an eye to a long and happy future, this site might be for you.

Somewhat in contradiction to this idea is the presentation of search results. You can perform a basic or advanced search, which takes into account personal and social attributes. The number of results we received from a basic search was somewhat disappointing, with fewer than 100 profiles offered to us, although our key concern is the fact that the results only appear as a series of profile pictures. As such you get no information on each member until you click to check their profile. This inevitably means that the most physically attractive members are bound to get more attention because when you scan through your results you have no other information on which to base your decision.

The profiles themselves tend to be a little sparse and don’t offer a massive amount of information because the sign up process requires you to tick boxes rather than type in more personal notes. You can however answer additional questions on your lifestyle, and include key words to help people locate you. Free members cannot view other members’ pictures, either, or send messages. As such the free membership is very restricted and prohibits you from really finding out whether or not you’ll click with another member.

Subscription costs are quite high, and there is a VIP option which is considerably more expensive than the Premium option, despite not really offering any major benefits. In part this is to separate the members, as VIPs are able to search exclusively for other VIPs. The implication of course is that VIP members are interested in similarly wallet-laden members. This is something of a turn off, but in a sense it does show that VIP individuals are dedicated to finding serious relationships because they’re willing to pay more for the service (and as such are less likely to be time wasters).

Whilst the ‘serious long term relationship’ status of OneGoodLove provides a niche, it is still no guarantee that its members are as dedicated as the site claims. Although its features are fine with paid membership, they are in no way as developed or numerous as you’ll find elsewhere. Given the high subscription costs we felt that the services provided on this site were substandard and offered poor value for money. However if you are definitely interested in a long term relationship and don’t mind paying for it then this might be a site worth considering.
